Confronting (my) Han

Confronting (my) Han í•œ explores my artistic process of unraveling my identity as a half-Korean American adoptee and artist, and the complexities of living in-between two different worlds. “Han” is the Korean word for the suffering, sorrow, resentment, and anger that is shared among Korean people. This word is unique to the Korean culture, and can be defined as a mixture of sorrow and resentment, but with tinges of hope. Han is not something you can define, it is something that you feel, and can be expressed through storytelling, and art. This project illustrates some of the challenges that I have faced including my fear of not being able to create art that can accurately depict these struggles, and my longing to connect to the Korean culture.

This collection includes a number of different formats and utilizes different skills including; digital illustration, digital painting, surface design, pattern design, and entrepreneurship.
